Opportunities for Service

 

Childcare workers are needed to assist in the nursery for the LAMBS Bible Study on Tuesday mornings.

 

Use the gifts and talents that God has given you to encourage other women with practical training

. 

Volunteers are needed to help with organizing and preparing for women's fellowships, service projects, retreats and other women's events scheduled throughout the year

. 

Widows and orphans are particularly dear to the heart of God. “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” James 1:27. God is so serious about caring for the widows that he portrays Himself as their protector in Psalm 68. The Wings Ministry was formed to to help the pastor and the deacons care for the widows in our congregation. We aim to provide fellowship opportunities for them, emotional and physical support when needed, and in generally just love on them as Christ does. Wings got it’s name from Psalm 91:4, “He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.” It is our goal to show His faithfulness and encourage the women to seek refuge in Him. In a very real way, we try to be His hands, His feet, His heart – His wings.

 Currently, the Wings ministry aims to host a fellowship luncheon once a month, and several times a year tries to show the women God’s love for them in a variety of ways – sometimes through outings, sometimes through little gifts and remembrances. Each lady receives correspondence for her birthday, and for many holidays throughout the year. Knowing that loneliness is a key concern for widows, we try to contact them as often as we can, just to listen and provide support. Our goal is to share our hearts with them. 

How can you help? On a more consistent basis, we need people willing to make phone calls, people who will bring a dish, people who will serve and have a meal with these ladies – we even have designated ‘huggers’. On a case by case basis, we need a phone list of people who are willing to people willing to provide rides to doctor’s appointments, help with minor home maintenance, yard work or housework. 

In our experience, the women that the Wings Ministry serves are an amazing group of women! It is never a dull moment at our luncheons or gatherings! You will benefit from their sage wisdom and boundless humor and their genuine appreciation and Christ-like love. Please contact the church office if you are ready for the blessing of serving the Wings ladies and they get you connected!
