First Look repeats one key truth all month long and engages the five senses to help preschoolers master the concept through creative activities. It helps a child to believe 1. God made me, 2. God loves me, and 3. Jesus wants to be my friend forever. We want our preschoolers to experience true worship, and we want to encourage them to talk to God any time or place. First Look also provides parents with ideas for conversation with their preschooler.
Every lesson has four components:
Make It Fun (small group)
Each teaching lesson begins with activities that are fun and welcoming. These activities are designed to make the children feel drawn into the classroom. Not only do they help children become more comfortable in their classroom, they also introduce the key truth for the month. In addition, these activities build community with leaders and each other.
Make It True (large group)
After a fun time with classroom friends, children are led to a large group time for the Bible story and worship. This is when children get to hear the truth of God’s Word and rejoice through worship.
First Look provides the Bible story in words that children will understand and relate to their own lives. By telling the story in an exciting and interactive manner, we enable children to want to learn about God and all that He has done.
During worship, children are encouraged to openly express their love for who God is and praise Him for all He has created. The songs are geared toward their age-level and have hand motions that the children learn. In addition, leaders teach the month’s memory verse in this section.
Make It Stick (small group)
Children return to their classroom to participate in a variety of activities that will help them apply what they have learned. These activities may be crafts, games, or even snacks. Each activity reinforces that month’s key truth in a fun and interactive way. Throughout this time of the lesson the key truth is repeated to be sure each child knows the truth of God’s loves.
Make It Real (small group)
Three- through 5-year-olds are led into a small group time where they can personalize the lesson and have a time of prayer. In small groups, relationships grow as children are encouraged to share their thoughts about the key truth and talk to God in their own words.
Small Talk flyers provide parents with information on what their preschooler learned that day, as well as an activity or discussion topic to continue that learning at home.
